Roses and Other Blossoms
Roses (my fav) and ALL flowers can certainly add JOY to one’s life. Many folks love to grow veggies when they dig in the dirt, but for me the world might be JOYOUS (and Peaceful) with the beauty and serenity in the variety of colors and shapes that flowers bring to me.
Summer
A summer afternoon , in the sun, is an ideal time to deadhead and prune your the blossoms in your garden-quiet beauty, but concentration required to keep the skin on your hands (roses DO attack). A cold beer or chilled white wine is another reward!
Living in a high desert climate, Boise has a somewhat short growing season (the long days of sunshine “do” wonder for tomatoes-oops, a fruit and not a flower) and with alkaline clay soil is a lesson in soil amendment, but the marvelous blossoms of Roses, Dahlias, Calla Lillies and all other adornments you have propagated can warm a heart even on 100*+ days.
In the realm of Roses (OK, and fruits and veggies too) aroma is a must for this old guy-a Rose with no “smell” regardless of appearance just is not a Rose. These Roses are definitely worth researching (a mid-winter JOY) and searching out.
If you have already had the JOY (fun) of learning to design, implement and maintain your space-if not, what a pleasure (fooled ‘ya, didn’t use JOY) awaits you.
Winter
In the northern (colder) areas of our country (some day I would like to have folks reading the nonsense that comes from my keyboard that live outside North America, I apologize for being so provincial), fall has its own sense of JOY in putting delicate bulbs and rhizomes to bed and mulching the perennials (Roses) that stay in the great outdoors until the spring happens along. What a great excuse for a pot of tea to bring JOY and warmth to your innards!
Another way to ENJOY the peace and beauty presented by your abilities to nurture flowers (year around) is to fill your plant shelves (you don’t have any?) with indoor plants-orchids are JOYOUS!
Cut flowers are available everywhere at all times-sure add to a nice table setting or addition to your afternoon tea experience (there’s that “tea” thing again).
PS A cold January day with your cat on your lap is the “perfect” way to ENJOY your plant and seed catalogs that have been arriving for months.
Well, tea time for me-ENJOY all you do even if dirt under your ‘nails is not your “thing”.
