Nature
Being out in Nature at all times of the year is my “thing”. Ever since an early age, I have explored and ENJOYED the great outdoors. Having lived my life completely in the northwest corner of the U.S., a great variety of experiences were “right at my doorstep” and still are today.
Camping
Throughout these writings, there will be many posts about what I do when “out there”. Maybe some concept will pique your “inner self”-we’ll see.
 Some fun activities are:
- Camping
- Photography
- Walking/Hiking
- Looking/Watching/Listening
- Fishing/Hunting
- Bird Watching
- Collecting
- Boating
- ?????
Camping will be a main focus of this page today. I have ENJOYED many facets of what we call camping:
- As a young person (ages 2-13) tent camping and fishing throughout Western Washington
- Later (ages 13-19) we had a small, by today’s standards, outboard cabin cruiser to the San Juan and Canadian Gulf islands during the summer months
- In early adulthood (at least in chronological years) many miles fo backpacking in the Cascade Mountains-as the family grew, a pickup camper (wet kids are not as happy as could be) became our outdoors base
- Basically the s’80s were spent living aboard with a wife, son, daughter, dog and cat,
- During the ’90s-mid teens, I had a fifth wheel trailer while moving from Seattle to Boise
- Since marrying Cheri, we are back to tent camping (not as simple as a camp might be, of course)
Much more to come on these various experiences.
Photography
Photography has re-entered my life in the past couple of years-an excellent way to find myself (yourself?) surrounded by trees, creeks, open hill sides, glorious sunrises, cute squirrels and chipmunks, a multitude of winged creatures and a celebration of the seasons changing as per a “Great Plan”.
Digital photography has changed many of the “old” processes-shooting [why is it called this when we are actually non-violently taking pictures or photos (there is a difference)] many scenes for no dollar cost, doing your own processing, there are so many ways to store your images and so many ways to share your images, etc. The initial cost of gear can be whatever is comfortable-I have a very complete “kit” having invested less than $2500.00 while it is incredibly easy to spend in the tens of thousands.
Snapshots to share with family and friends (in print or electronically) to fine art photos and everything in between is a personal choice.
Have fun and be JOYOUS
